The water's surface is glassy smooth
God's mirror in the wild
He's been staring at it for quite some time
Something's amiss...
He sees the moon behind him, the swaying grass
The waving trees, the twinkling stars
Everything is where it should be
Except one
He is not alone
There it is again!
The oddity that darted from his view earlier has returned!
In the pond, he is not alone
His reflection looks at his confusion with amusement
This can’t be!
The face he wears isn’t what he sees!
In fear he looks around quickly
There is no one there
His eyes return to the pond
At his side, a beautiful woman quietly sits
She doesn’t speak, she doesn’t move
She simply smiles...
Her brown skin glows in the soft moonlight
He watches her hair blow ever so gently with the wind
Her dark eyes captivate him completely
“Who are you?” he asks the mirage
No response...
His reflection has ceased its imitation
It too sits silently watching him
Smiling...
“Who is she?” he pleads
But still...complete silence
As the wind picks up, he sees her kiss him
He watches as their faces meet before closing his eyes
A leaf brushes against his lips
It floats down and lands in the water
The ripple disturbs his view
When the water calms, he sees only himself
“Who was she?” he asks
“Who was she?” he replies
