The flame flickers in the endless darkness
Slowly, the wind gusts and causes the flame to dance
It does so
Smoothly and fluidly...
The light dances on the bare wall behind it
He seems happy to have the company.
But as soon as the wind comes, it goes...
He is alone again
The wax melts gently below the fire
There isn’t much left
Its core winds down as the minutes tick away...
Solitarily he burns
His light struggles to reach the far ends of the darkness
It cannot reach
Clearly he needs more light to aide him
With his light, he can see other candles
Idling in the distance, lighting their own rooms.
Some are brightly lit, others are very dimly lit
But there is always more than one
His room however, remains dark
Illuminated only by his small light
Every now and then, his flame sparks an unlit candle to life
But eventually, they all flicker out
Leaving his flame burning solitarily
One day...
He would like to see his entire room engulfed in light.
Every dark corner illuminated with the radiance of many candles
But every day his wick burns a little closer to the ground
The ticking clock reminding him of his finite time.
Little does he know there are many candles that would love to join him
Bring to his room more warmth, light, company...
But so brightly shines his light, they assume he is not alone and stay away
The flame flickers alone in the empty darkness
Ebbing ever nearer to the ground...
Blowing gently, the wind returns
The light dances on the bare wall behind it.
Hello old friend...I’ve missed you
